Since a 1915 decree the village has kept its white walls and blue woodwork. Climb the main lane to the café terraces, then turn into the quieter side streets for the doors and the bougainvillea.

Early light in Carthage
The ruins have little shade. The 08:00 pickup puts you at the Antonine Baths before the sun is high.
Walk to the top
The best views of the gulf are from the terraces at the top of the main lane. The climb is short but steep.
Afternoon at the beach
Back by early afternoon, you still have most of the day for the pool or the sea.
The route from your hotel
From Hammamet the motorway reaches Carthage in about an hour. Sidi Bou Said is five minutes further up the hill.
